Unfortunately, the Bat Conservation Society of Canada (BCSC) has ceased to exist!
Sometime around 1994 or 1995, my friend and fellow Calgary Zoo Docent, Kevin Hyslop and I, realized the importance of bats and the fact that little was being done in Canada to help them. Along with Brent MacLeod and several other people, we started BCSC. I am pleased to say that it became quite successful! Successful enough to keep us going full time, but not enough to provide us with salaries! We finally decided that we couldn't continue and disbanded it. A sad day for Kevin, Brent, Leslie, and myself!
There were MANY people who helped with BCSC, and if I start to name them now, I am sure to forget someone. With that in mind, forgive me if I forget you. Thanks to Rhonda (my wife - who still puts up with me stopping what I am doing to help people with bat calls), Wendy, Lynn, Cindy, Dr. Robert Barclay, Dr. Mark Brigham, Dr. Brock Fenton, Dr. Merlin Tuttle (Bat Conservation International), to name a few. Thanks also to the 500 or so people who became members of the Society!
I am pleased to say however, that we still do our part by providing people with bat info, bat talks and solving bat related nuisance problems - on a much reduced scale!
This web site is my attempt to purvey bat info! By providing you as much information as possible, perhaps the future plight of bats will improve!
Thanks for visiting the site!
