Canada’s Bats
There have been a total of 20 species of bats identified in Canada. British Columbia leads the way with 17 species!
Click on a Province in the pull down menu to see which bats can be found there! Eventually, there will be pictures of the individual bat as well as life history.
The information has been taken from the "Handbook of Canadian Mammals, Vol. 2" by C.G. van Zyll de Jong, except for the report of a Hoary (Lasiurus cinereus) bat entry shown in Newfoundland. This single record was reported by Mr. Gerald Yetman, Technical Coordinator, Botanical Garden at Oxen Pond, Memorial University, Newfoundland, and is likely an accidental occurrence.
